The LBPS present inB at Piping Live! on 16th August 2023
Lowland & Border Pipers’ Society presents the new bellows piping ensemble inB on 16th August 2023 at the National Piping Centre as part of the Piping Live! festival in Glasgow. The quartet comprises Fin Moore and Brighde Chaimbeul who play Scottish smallpipes handcrafted by Fin Moore; and Tiarnàn O’Duinnchinn and Louise Mulcahy who play Uilllean pipes.
The band took its name because the performers all play … in B, and this unique collaboration creates a beautiful tonal texture.

Piping Live! – Wednesday 10th August 2022
The Society will be once again taking part in this year’s Piping Live! festival. The show is called Ye Heilans an ye Lawlans and promises to be an entertaining evening comprising two distinct halves featuring Harta and the Matt Seattle Band.
The Matt Seattle Band, who will be well known to members (featuring pipes, accordion, fiddle and percussion), will debut Matt’s Gala Water Suite, his beautiful musical tribute to the river that runs south from the Moorfoot Hills in Midlothian to Galashiels where it enters the Tweed. Harta, the Skye and Lochalsh based trio, play a mix of old Scottish melodies and dance tunes alongside music drawn from the Nordic traditions. The band comprises piper and maker Ross Calderwood on smallpipes; Christine Martin on nyckelharpa; and legendary Scottish folk musician Jack Evans on guitar, bouzouki, and whistles.

The show – which takes place on the evening of Wednesday, 10th August at The National Piping Centre – opens with a set from two very talented Royal Conservatoire of Scotland students, Dougals McKiggan and Finlay MacVicar.

The Matt Seattle Band
The Matt Seattle Band was formed in 2008 with Matt (Border pipes), Donald Knox (guitar and mandolin), Lewis Powell-Reid (accordion, guitar and cittern) and Frazer Watson (percussion).
In 2010 they recorded their début album Reivers of the Heart featuring their Thomas the Rhymer Suite, and they'll soon be putting the finishing touches to their second album.
Morag Brown (fiddle) joined them in 2016, and Jenni Borthwick (fiddle) now joins them for their Piping Live! concert, with LBPS Convenor Stuart Letford guesting on Scottish smallpipes.
They all live in the Scottish Borders, and as well as playing in Borders festivals and village halls they've performed in Edinburgh, Glasgow (twice at Òran Mór) and Dumfries and Galloway.
They're looking forward to their Piping Live! concert which will feature Matt's Gala Water Suite. Composed during lockdown in 2020, it consists of 14 new tunes framed by 2 traditional airs, all inspired by locations mentioned in the pre-Robert-Burns lyrics to Braw Lads o Gala Water.

The Lowland and Border Pipers' Society present a very special evening of programming on Sunday 8th August, celebrating the music of bellows pipers.
The LBPS brings you an exciting blend of tradition and innovation in this celebration of the music of the bellows bagpipes of Scotland, past and present. Featuring some of the finest and most experienced players of those instruments from across the nation, commemoration is very much in the air, as we pay tribute to two key figures of the bellows revival who have sadly passed away of late, Iain MacDonald and Nigel Richard. And in the very week of the 250th anniversary of the birth of Sir Walter Scott, we take you on a journey in music and song to the banks of the Tweed, featuring a range of the wonderful ballads he collected – expect tales of love, honour and revenge aplenty! We can’t wait – do join us as we offer you More Power to Your Elbow!

The Piping Live! festival is a week long celebration of piping held in Glasgow in the week prior to the World Pipe Band Championships. It is estimated that the festival alone adds £12 million to Scotland's tourism revenue and it is the largest bagpipe festival in the world, showcasing the best talent from a range of traditions.
The LBPS has been involved with the festival in one way or another since it began in 2003. We have hosted Club Nights in the Piping Centre under the direction of Hamish Moore, our members have played in the tent, in the street, on platforms and in fields. We have also held concerts as part of the official programme. In 2017, the current Convenor, Donald Lindsay was inspired to hold a ‘chill-out’ barbecue with pipes day on the Sunday after the Worlds and this has been successfully held again in 2018.
